Hanging leg raises are typically the go-to recommended exercise for lower abs, but what if there was a better alternative?
The problem with hanging leg raises is that they work the hip flexors hard. These muscles are already shortened on most people from sitting all day.

This exercise makes that problem worse.
Here’s a video demo of an exercise called “The Screwdriver” that can hit the lower abs without the assistance of the hip flexors.
This exercise is amazing for two reasons:
1. It works the obliques hard along with the lower abs.
2. It decompresses the spine.
I’ve trained for years and have yet to try this ab exercise.
It looks awesome.
My current favorite exercise for OVERALL ab development is the ab wheel.
