I think I enjoyed the ritual of making it and smelling it in the morning as much as I like the caffeine.
I drink less coffee now than I used to.
I prefer to be powered by carbs these days.
I almost feel like caffeine borrows “future energy”.
You feel more awake and energetic now at the expense of less energy later.
(I know that isn’t exactly how it works.)
What about decaf coffee?
Well…
Decaf Coffee has been shown to suppress appetite more than Caffeinated Coffee… and the effects are strong.
Precision Nutrition goes over a study in detail which compares caffeinated and decaf coffee.
Here’s a quick summary:
“While caffeine has long been used as an appetite suppressant, in this study it was decaffeinated coffee that resulted in significantly lower hunger levels and higher plasma levels of PYY than placebo (plain water) and the other caffeinated beverages.”
“More PYY means less hunger. Not only that, but the decrease in hunger lasted for the full 3 hours of the lab visit, even though, after 1.5 hours, levels of PYY decreased.”
“Another interesting finding was that the decrease in hunger and an increase in PYY persisted through and after the glucose ingestion.”
I haven’t tested this out yet.
I might try a cup of decaf coffee at night after dinner when I’m craving late-night snacks.
I always lose fat at a faster rate when I cut off eating a few hours before bed.
