My favorite time of the year is the fall.

September and October are my favorite months. I love the weather and the way the trees look, etc.
Plus…
The fall is the official beer season.
I love a 70 degree late September day, drinking beers with friends in an outdoor beer garden.
I still need to do Oktoberfest in Germany.

I just read an article put out today on some of the health benefits of beer.
Beer Officially Good for You Because it Reduces Heart Risk
I’ll summarize here:
Here are some of the health benefits of daily beer drinking.
- Helps thin the blood and removes plaque in arteries
- The polyphenols help fight disease
- Reduces the likelihood of developing diabetes and heart disease
- Equivalent antioxidants of wine
- Limit it to 14 units per week for men and a bit less for women (1-2 beers a day).
I do realize I’m being affected by CONFIRMATION BIAS.
I like beer, so I am likely to find good news about it.
I still think the article makes good points.
Hoegaarden is my favorite beer, by the way.

A lot of people avoid beer when trying to get lean.
Here’s the issue with beer or other drinks that contain alcohol.
Your body prioritizes burning off alcohol BEFORE any calories from food.
If you eat mainly protein or carbs with alcohol you are fine.
- With excess protein, the body typically converts it to glucose (gluconeogenesis) and it gets stored in the muscles as glycogen.
- Excess carbs also get stored as glycogen.
The only time glucose from protein or carbs get converted to fat is if muscle glycogen is full (this RARELY happens).
Excess dietary fat gets stored as body fat.
The reserve tank for dietary fat is your fat cells… and the reserve tank for protein and carbs are muscle cells.
The ideal meal to eat when drinking beer if you don’t want to store body fat is a carb and protein-based meal that is LOW fat.

A low fat stir fry over steamed rice works well.
Unfortunately, beer and pizza isn’t a great combo.
Any meal where you keep fat to a minimum is perfect.
I love Mexican food, and the past few months I have been making HUGE burritos with fat-free refried beans.
I’ll use 3 large flour tortillas, which have a little fat, but overall the fat in the meal is still low.

This is my go-to meal 2-3 times per week.
The “3 Large Burrito and 2 Cold Beer Diet Plan” 🙂
I still want to lose 10 pounds…
The final last bit of fat is melting off my lower abs, even while enjoying 1-2 Hoegaarden beers each night with my dinner.
I just turned 50.

I feel pretty good about my middle-aged BEER-BOD (only 10 pounds to go).
If you decide to drink beer, simply limit fat as much as possible.
It’s actually not a bad approach even when you aren’t drinking beer.

Visual Impact High Carb Fat Loss
My metabolism is similar to a teenager’s now since carbs have it revved up.
If I ever go to Munich for Oktoberfest, I will NOT limit fat intake…

…and I will most likely have more than 2 beers.
By eating high carb the majority of the time, my body is ready to take on excess calories.
Any fat gain is minimal even when going off diet for a day or two.
When I go back to limiting intake…
