With the popularity of CrossFit and other interval training routines, cardio machines aren’t as popular as they were in the 80’s.

I’m still a huge fan.

The reason why is that you can dial in intensity with extreme precision in a way that is tough to do with free weights or body weight training.

In my opinion, the StepMill is the most effective cardio machine in the gym.

Not only does the StepMill burn a ton of calories, it is great for firming and lifting the glutes.

How many calories each machine burns varies with intensity.

Here’s the range of calories per cardio machine:

  • Stationary Bike 500-1000 calories per hour
  • Treadmill 600-1200 calories per hour
  • Elliptical Trainer 600-800 calories per hour
  • Rowing Machine 700-1100 calories per hour
  • StepMill 800-1400 calories per hour

*These are all estimates I’ve gathered by averaging a from a few sources online.

I do believe that the StepMill has the highest calorie burn potential.

A well constructed 30-minute Stepmill workout can burn around 600 calories.

I recommend doing interval training on this cardio machine.

I have created what many have called the most advanced fat loss course using cardio machines:
