It’s easy to forget that putting on weight takes a long time.

For 15 years I've helped fashion models get lean for photoshoots. Use my plan to Lose 5-10 pounds of PURE body fat in 14 days.

Typically, it just creeps up on people.

It is so slow that it is easy to miss.

Then one day someone sees an old photo of themselves and can’t believe how much different they look now.

Or…

They see a current photo of themselves and are horrified.

gaining weight takes time

The process of becoming overweight takes many years in most cases.

Sometimes decades.

It can take 10+ years to gain 50 pounds of excess weight… but people expect to lose all that weight in 5-6 months.

I’m not saying that losing weight and hitting your target weight should take 5-10 years.

But…

If you have 50 pounds to lose, it will most likely take more than 5-6 months.

Unless you are under 30.

It’s hard to give a hard time frame but I’ll do my best.

You should expect it to take about 1 year to lose 50 pounds: The first 35-40 pounds will take about 6 months and it will take another 6 months to lose those final 10-15 pounds since weight loss slows as you get close to your target weight.

This may sound like a long time, but a year is going to fly by quickly whether you lose this weight or not.

Also…

Age is a HUGE factor in getting lean.

I remember being in my early 20’s at the University of Washington.

In the spring we would diet for 3 months and look ripped before summer hit.

I’m mentioning this, because I notice before and after pics of young people on Facebook will show similar things.

Dramatic weight loss in 3 months.

It’s easy to drop 30-50 pounds when you are young.

If you are in your 40’s (or older), with the same amount of weight to lose, that same amount of weight loss will probably take about a year.

If you were in a movie theater when you first saw this scene, you probably need to be a bit more patient when it comes to weight loss.

I think most people should expect about 12 months to go from overweight to decently slim.

Then possibly another 6-12 months to go from slim to their ideal fitness level.

Every little tweak can help when it comes to fat loss.

Here’s an article I wrote about how doing a short 4-5 day all-potato diet, can jump start your fat loss.

This is really easy since it only lasts a few days.
