I recently read an article titled “No Such Thing as Too Much Exercise, Study Finds”.

This article referred to a study that was published on October 19, 2018.
The study had compelling evidence for more exercise.
This was a cohort study involving 122,007 people.
Cardio fitness was tested on a treadmill.

The study looked at survival rates over a period of time and compared to cardiorespiratory fitness.
“Conclusions and Relevance: Cardiorespiratory fitness is inversely associated with long-term mortality with no observed upper limit of benefit. Extremely high aerobic fitness was associated with the greatest survival and was associated with benefit in older patients and those with hypertension. Cardiorespiratory fitness is a modifiable indicator of long-term mortality, and health care professionals should encourage patients to achieve and maintain high levels of fitness.”
The higher the cardio fitness, the greater the survival rate.
Elite athletes and those with elite cardio fitness levels had the lowest mortality rate.

It makes logical sense to me.
The more you move blood through your veins and get the heart pumping, the better the system will work.
Cardio gets bashed.
But…
Studies like these remind me that I’m fighting the good fight.
When in doubt, get some exercise in.
I do NOT believe you can get an adequate amount of exercise from weight lifting alone.

*You can get some cardio benefit from weightlifting too, I just think it is not the most efficient way to get aerobically fit.
The issue with resistance training is that it’s intense… too much and you will become over-trained.
This is why I recommend adding in cardio sessions after lifting weights.
