My gym is funny.

If I train around 5:00 at night…

I’m one of the oldest people in the gym.

If I train at 10:00 am…

I’m the youngest.

The 10:00 am sessions are great.

In that time of the morning, there is a woman in her 70’s who busts dance moves on one of the racquetball courts.

It’s entertaining to watch her…

…because she mixes ballroom style dancing with breakdancing and even twerking.

It puts me in a good mood.

Around 4:00 or 5:00 pm, the whole vibe changes.

My gym turns into Deadlifting Headquarters.

Almost every available Olympic bar is moved to some open spot on the floor and is used for deadlifts.

(This isn’t my gym, but it begins looking like this and irritates the heck out of me.)

I believe deadlifts can have their place…

…but this trend has gotten out of hand.

My brother-in-law who is a chiropractor is seeing a massive spike in spinal cord injuries due to the increase in deadlifts as well as CrossFit type of training.

It’s too bad.

There is an awesome world outside of the gym.

Always pushing for personal bests and testing your limits can create lifelong pain.

It’s possible to train for strength without destroying your body in the process.

The goal is to look AND feel better.

Be careful out there!

Note: I’ve been training for 30+ years in the gym.

I see really terrible form and excessively heavy weight used by a lot of guys and girls in their 20’s and 30’s.

I actually believe that there is a good chance that they won’t be lifting into their 40’s and beyond due to the damage that is being done to their body.
