Lean Muscles VS Bulky Muscles: What Looks Best As You Age?

Since I’ve trained in a commercial gym for 33 years, I’ve seen people in various stages of their fitness journey.

I’ve worked out alongside beginners, bodybuilders, fitness competitors, former Olympic lifters, etc.

The most eye-opening experience was training at Gold’s gym from 1995 – 2003. I trained at a Gold’s Gym that was in a strip mall next to a grocery store.

The place was filled with bodybuilders and former bodybuilders.

It was a true bodybuilder gym.

There were men and women who came in and days before their contests and would work on posing routines, etc.

One thing I vividly remember was the look of former bodybuilders.

Once they got older they inevitably lost muscle size.

There was a lot of sagging skin on people who probably had never been overweight in their lives.

Here are extreme examples of muscle mass… although this is muscle and not fat, the skin is still getting stretched.

They will have loose skin as they grow older.

I’ve seen it happen time and time again over the years.

I actually think a similar thing will happen with the younger women who push their butt size to unnatural levels.

If you want to look great in your 50’s and beyond, I don’t think it is a smart plan to push muscle size to the max.

A better approach is fine-tuning your physique without adding bulk.

Using a Hollywood couple as an example… Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski, really have this dialed in.

They both look amazing in formal clothes, casual clothes, and minimal clothing.

I’m not saying bodybuilding is bad.

Or adding as much muscle as possible is a terrible thing.

But…

The Internet is already filled with sites and courses teaching that.

I offer something different.
